Come Together to Try and Save the Only Dog Friendly Independent Bookseller in Los Angeles…
Many romantic comedies such as the Tom Hanks film You’ve Got Mail involve “cute meets” in funky independent bookstore. Sadly, in Los Angeles, the combined pressures of the recession, and the popularity of e-books and amazon.com have meant that funky independent bookstores are suffering. Dutton’s in Brentwood went under, the Bodhi Tree in West Hollywood is closing in the fall, Book Soup was saved in a last minute buyout by Pasadena based Vroman’s.
Now Village Books in the Pacific Palisades, the only bookseller in LA that allows pet dogs in the store may be going under. So New York Times bestselling author W. Bruce Cameron, author of A Dog’s Purpose: A Novel for Humans (soon to be a major motion picture from DreamWorks Studios) and his dog Tucker have come together with the adoptable dogs of The Amanda Foundation to try and raise funds for Palisades Village Book Friends, the non-profit arm of Village Books that sponsors literary events.
This Wednesday June 8 at 7:30 P.M. you, and your dog, can join Mr. Cameron and Tucker for “Wine, Cheese and Bones” for Palisades Village Book Friends. Half of the proceeds from every paperback copy of “A Dog’s Purpose” will go to the foundation, and you can hang out with other dog lovers and book lovers as you sip wine, and your dog enjoys dog treats.
Who knows, maybe you’ll meet the love of your life in a bookstore, while bookstores still exist.
