A Suze Orman TV Special Not to Miss!

“Money Class”

In conjuction with the release of her new book of the same title, Suze Orman is doing a PBS special that “will reveal Suze’s expert take on what actions people need to take in light of the new economy. After the upheavals of the economic downturn, Suze believes it’s critical to rethink many of the traditional strategies we’ve been using to achieve our financial goals. In this special, she will unveil her own new and powerful advice, updating and sometimes revising her long-held beliefs, to help viewers navigate today’s unsettling economic waters.” Orman promises to once again be loaded with the straight talk we need to hear…advice about the new economic fundamentals such as saving and investing, renting a home vs. owning and reshaping our beliefs around the “American Dream”, building a career, planning for retirement and more.  Orman says, “Bad financial habits can hurt you in any economic environment, but in the one we’re in now, they can bankrupt you.”‘

She suggests that many of us need to foget about buying a house and accept that renting may be our path…as much as 60% of Americans in the future according to Orman.  We need to learn to be okay with that too and not feel like we’ve failed.  “It used to be more, bigger, best,” ads Orman. “Everybody in America started to define themselves by all these things they had around them. And all of a sudden it came tumbling down. So the old American dream has died, and that is a good thing.” False values according to Orman, and so many of us place our self worth on what we own and what we have for show instead of who we are inside. She no longer suggest living within your means, but living well below your means.  That saving should feel as good, if not better, than the material things we so valued in the past.  Like I said, straight talk. And it’s about time.  With gas pricing reaching unbelievable highs and fast, many of us wonder how we will continue to weather this storm.
