I wish I had someplace far to go, requiring lots of luggage so I could decorate it all with these adorable new locks. I know, that sounds silly but I’ve stuck to the same boring red suitcases for a decade and I like to jazz them up when I travel, just enough to make them identifiable as different from all the other red suitcases. When did red become the “it” color in luggage, anyway?
I have neon green handle covers, which make it easier on my hands, and until now, coordinated them with green locks. But I’m getting bored of them too. So it’s lucky I found this new line when I did – Safe Skies Locks.Â
The most important thing to know is that these are TSA compliant. A few years back the Transportation Security Administration outlawed luggage locks that they can’t open with their special keys. If you make the mistake of using a non-TSA compliant lock, you can be pretty sure it’ll be gone… hacked off… when you get your bag back. It’s part of the security contract you make when you buy your ticket. You use only TSA compliant locks, and security agents may or may not use their special key to peek inside. If yours is clipped anyway, Safe Skies Locks will replace it for free. These, by the way, are also accepted by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs of the United Kingdom and have two U.S. patents.
I know many of us feel like once our bags are checked they are safe, but the reality is theft does occur. The most likely culprits are baggage handlers, but even some reports have been made of theft by TSA employees. A lock is a sure deterrent and something you might wish you had purchased if it ever happens to you.Â
Anyway, these are adorable and there are styles for everyone. Dig animals? They’ve got locks in zebra, leopard and dalmation patterns. There are several models in florals… I like the one with the most green in it, to complement my handle-pads. But I also dig the pink ones that I think look like guitars…. even though the company says they’re shaped like the Liberty Bell. Or you can go with just plain yellow… or black…. even camouflage…or a brass look… something for everyone. Some models have four-digit combinations, and others require only three digits. I prefer the four. It’s more secure, even though it’s larger and therefore heavier. And it’s so easy to set the combination to a number you’ll always remember. Just turn the handle to the side, set it, and you’re ready to go. If you’d rather carry a key than memorize yet another way to access your stuff, they do have padlocks in six different colors, also, all TSA compliant.
As an extra added security and identification measure, Safe Skies Locks also has a luggage strap with a lock built right in. It expands to 82” so it’s big enough for your largest regulation-size suitcase. And the mechanism to open it is easy to use.
