In the heart of Awards Season, we have just concluded one of my personal favorites – the Grammys. Many may view the Grammys as the lesser of the couture-minded events. Musicians, in all their creative fury, can tend to go overboard with their style choices. In my opinion, the eclectic array of avant-garde choices is what makes this event so great.
As they vie for attention on the red carpet, we often see a lot of glam, a lot of exposed body parts and a lot of, ahem, “what on earth were they thinking?!” So let us recap some of those sweet and sour notes from the night.
Winners:
• Jennifer Lopez – Last night J.Lo proved that she has still got it. The Latina stunner showed up in a silver Pucci mini-dress with some glamorous Louboutins to match, showing off her gorgeous gams. The dress was fun, sexy, and perfect for the Grammys. Just as she did back in 2003, J.Lo never ceases to amaze. Que bonita!
• Jennifer Hudson – Looking better than ever, Jennifer Hudson showed off her flawless new body in a flowing navy Versace dress with sparkly bustier top. The dress was youthful and sexy all while maintaining an air of sophistication with the subdued coloring and longer length. She certainly made it to the top of the charts last night.
• Selena Gomez – This lovely young 18 year old showed her sophisticated side in a shimmering J. Mendel gown. Not only did this dress fit like a glove, the off-white coloring complimented her skin tone so beautifully that she looked like a trophy herself.

Losers:
• Nicki Minaj: No one will ever know what was going through Ms. Minaj’s mind when she chose this leopard print atrocity. One cannot deny her boldness but the head-to-toe animal-print, ill-fitting silhouette, and frightening Bride of Frankenstein wig proved to be much more “flop” than “fierce.”
• Katy Perry: Katy Perry really must have wanted to celebrate the holiday of love. Maybe she was evoking Cupid; maybe she got dressed in the dark. All in all, Perry looked more costume than couture. Although the gown had great potential, the opalescent color of the skirt and the comical wings just broke our hearts
• Rhianna: In Jean-Paul Gaultier, Rhianna completely missed the mark. The off-the-shoulder see-through garment looked as if she had wrapped herself in Christmas tinsel. Although it hugged her body like a second skin, the dress offered nothing more than a tacky attempt at outrageous.

Another Grammy Awards has come and gone but these red carpet styles will prove to remain etched in fashion history. Now we must ready ourselves for the Oscars. Although, I can say with great certainty, I doubt anyone will arrive in an egg.
