Shattering the World One Tee at a Time

“Evolve.Adapt.Grow” is the tag line to up-and-comers, Shatterproof Clothing. Where fashion is involved, these three words describe the industry in full. What makes Shatterproof Clothing different from every other brand trying to be recognized in the fashion industry? Their concept, and promise to every customer who purchases a good, which may someday save our Earth.

We all have been told over the past decade that the Earth is experiencing a “crisis”, that we must do all that is necessary to preserve our rain forests, lessen the carbon footprint, protect the o-zone, save our icebergs! We must becoming environmentally conscious, or in trendier terms, “green.” This term has become a phenomena, we have “green” light bulbs, building structures, agricultural practices, and now clothing. What constitutes “green” clothing is debatable; standards are now being put in place to allow clothing brands to have that eco-friendly stamp of approval. Widespread understanding of eco-conscious clothing are organic fibers, dyes, recycled fabrics, “green” working conditions, energy-saving techniques of production and transportation as well as an overall knowledge for each employee to know what it means to be “green.”

So where does Shatterproof Clothing come in? They have developed a brand out of Long Island, NY that pledges to use organic materials in clothing, as well as means of production to protect the Earth. Well lets face it, many companies are developing “green” brands of similar concept, but what makes Shatterproof Clothing stand out is their promise to customers to “plant one tree for every item sold, through the American Forests Organization.” They also list ten ways on their website why planting trees is environmentally beneficial, giving rhyme to their reason.

Not only do founders Tom LaVecchia and Nicole Huber (who started the company in 2009) hold an interest to the eco-conscious fashion world, but also to the art and music world. Recently vending at the popular Bamboozle festival this past weekend in East Rutherford, NJ, the Shatterproof Clothing brand spread the word to thousands of music lovers. With hip t-shirt designs, and custom cutting for every customer, they made it cool to be “green.” In an interview with Bamboozle reps, the two owners stated that their new line represents “our idea of what Shatterproof means. It involves T-shirts for Strength, Versatility, Ambition, Wisdom, and Courage — the building blocks of being shatterproof.” They feature popular bands on their web page, and the bands and tours they have vended at also publish their web page as well, they also have a blog that is updated on a day to day basis depicting new designs/lines, spreading the “green” word, while also throwing in some cool art and music facts.

Shatterproof Clothing prides itself on the ability to evolve, adapt, and grow, much like mother nature does everyday. Can one brand help save our planet? Well we can certainly hope they will at least ‘plant’ the idea of being “green” into their consumers heads and change the world one shirt at a time.
