Health Care Coverage is Now Affordable
For many with pre-existing conditions or loved ones who may be dealing with this issue, health care coverage was through the roof or impossible to obtain, but as of July 1 the Department of Health and Human Services cut the premium for their Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan up to 40% in many states. For those who fit the bill, health insurance is now available and more affordable as part of the Affordable Health Care Act. Â
According to Bottom Line Personal, “This plan is available only to US citizens and legal residents who have been without insurance for at least six months.” You must also have a pre-existing condition or have been denied coverage because of your condition.
The Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan:
- Covers a broad range of health benefits, including primary and specialty care, hospital care, and prescription drugs.
- Does not charge you a higher premium just because of your medical condition.
- Does not base eligibility on income.
Note that state by state it differs, and some states have opted for the plan run by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and some states have opted to run the plan themselves. To check out your state, there’s a map on pcip.gov.
Healthcare.gov is a federal government website managed by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.Â
