If you’re like me, you’re dying for an iPad but in a quandary as to whether to buy the 2 now or wait for the release of the 3. As of today, some sites are predicting the iPad 3 will land in stores February 2012, a month earlier than was previously thought. The moving up of the release date is thought to be as a result of the competition from other tablets, even though Apple is clearly the leader in this market (for the moment.)
Who would have thought that the Kindle Fire by Amazon at under $200.oo would be on everyone’s Christmas list. “In fact, people, who just want a tablet for eReading, video watching and music listening… prefer Kindle Fire to other tablets, which come with hefty price tags. Small size, great design, lightweight body, Android OS, breadth of content and many other factors are enough to make Kindle Fire a star on market.”
The Google Android is another threat to Apple’s lead in this market. Like the smartphones that are Android based, it took them close to two years after their launch to surpass iPhones in sales, and some experts expect the Android tablets to do the same. Many customers prefer the Android for the simple reason that there are no restriction like the ones Apple enforces on how you customize your device, what you install on it, or how you use it.
Apple is always quiet about their release dates, but Digitimes mentions that their source about manufacturers in Asia revealed, “OEM production of iPad 2 will remain high at 14-15 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011 but decline to 4-5 million units in the first quarter of 2012, paving the way for the launch of the new iPads.”
What are the new talked about features?
Siri, the voice activated personal assitant will be included as it is a huge hit with those owning the iPhone 4S. The new iTunes and iCloud. New iPad apps for this version. There’s also talk of the new screen having a 2048×1536 resolution, or quadruple the amount of pixels in the iPad 2. And according to CNET, ”other rumours include that it’ll have a retina display like on the iPhone 4S, making for fantastic images; an A6 processor… a thinner battery, yet be fatter as a device; be lighter; and have a curved glass display that could very well be 3D, if Hollywood insiders are to be believed.”
