Looking for a sunny cocktail to brighten up a rainy day? Here’s the perfect choice with a little brandy to warm you up as well! The happy color comes from the Yellow Chartreuse liquor, which is a milder and sweeter version of it’s green counterpart with extracts from extracts from 132 plants! Now that’s definitely springy! Chartreuse is produced by French monks and is “one of the oldest and most mysterious spirits still available.” According to one source, “Only three monks from the order know the secret recipe…and all have taken a vow of silence. The liqueur was originally created as an ‘Elixir of Long Life’ in 1605 by Peres Chartreux.”
Want to change it up to a splashy cocktail for friends? Make ice cubes out of lemon juice and sugar. This adds a delicious sour twist. Or to create a non-alcoholic version: mix 2 ounces of Club Soda, 2 ounces of orange juice, and 2 ounces of green tea in a glass over ice for that lovely chartreuse color.
- 1 ounce brandy
- 1/4 ounce yellow Chartreuse
- 1 ounce orange juice
Easy as 1-2-3:
- Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Shake, shake, shake.
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and enjoy!
